[He hooked an arm around her shoulders and pulled her in, holding onto her tight enough to feel his bones give a warning ache. He ignored it-- he didn't care if something broke, because his sister was here and she was safe.]

[She knows better than to make things worse, so instead of hugging tighter, Hilary is going to grip at Joker's suit-- a suit that is most definitely not his Alliance blues, but that's something to question later]

[She's also trying to put on a brave face for him. As far as she knows, Joker has no knowledge of anything that's happened to her, and it's not something that can be brought up without some sort of horrible reaction. It doesn't stop a couple of tears from leaking, though, which she's learned is okay sometimes.]

I thought something happened to you. That you were gone...!

[Damn, he was kicking himself for not changing out of the Cerberus uniform. Not that anyone here gave half a shit about Cerberus, but it wasn't going to be fun to explain to his baby sister why he was wearing a terrorist group's colors.]

I'm fine, nothing happened to me. C'mon, there's nothing in this galaxy that could get to me, not so long as I've got a ship to fly.

[She was getting too tall for him to put his chin on her head anymore, so he settled for his cheek against her hair, minding the beard. If he noticed her crying, he didn't draw attention to it, he just rubbed a hand, slow and soothing, over her back.]

[She's tempted to ask where he and his ship were when Tiptree fell under attack, but she knows that he couldn't have gone to save her. Spending months rationalizing your own death kind of puts things into perspective.]
